Good Friend,
Have you ever imagined how you can easily walk to your door even with lights out?
You probably recognize your mum’s voice from afar without stressing.
Do you know why it’s easy for others to pray for long hours?
Probably the word “consistency” is coming to your mind.
Nevertheless,
I hope your week has been a productive one.
As we approach the weekend, I want to dive into a topic that can truly transform your life: The Power of Habit Formation.
Let me start by saying this……
Habits are the building blocks of success. Without them, even the best intentions can fall flat. But with the right habits, you can create a foundation for a fulfilling and productive life.
Forming good habits is not just a self-improvement tactic; it's a fundamental shift that can lead to lasting change.
Imagine waking up every day with a set of routines that propel you towards your goals effortlessly. Sounds amazing, right? Well, it's entirely achievable, and I'm here to guide you through it.
Do you remember how easy it is for you to wake up and walk straight to the bathroom immediately, every day of the week, or should I say how you can’t go the restroom without your phone?
My guy, that’s one habit right there.
We make our habits or our habits make us.
You need to make those hard things your habits.
Hard things that will push you to your dreams.
At one point in your life, brushing was hard, bathing was hard, staying indoors was hard, and doing your laundry was hard.
The only thing that made these things your regular routine and habit is that you made them part of your daily or weekly activities and do them often.
You can apply this to new habits you know you truly need but find hard to do.
Is it reading books, writing, saving, creating more content, or building your business?
You need to find a way to do them daily until it becomes something you enjoy or you don’t enjoy but do because it’s now a habit.
Just like your laundry, you don’t need to enjoy doing them but you do them weekly.
Treat those habits you need that way.
Do them when you feel good or not, until it becomes something you have to do.
James Clear shared some tricks to making your habit stick faster.
You can read his book.
Below, I will share some simple strategies you can use to build habits.
You heard ‘simple’ now, you are happy.
Here's how you can harness the power of habit formation:
1. Identify Your Keystone Habits: These are the habits that have a ripple effect on other areas of your life.
For instance, regular exercise can improve your energy levels, mood, and productivity.
Savings and having emergency funds can do the same.
Start by identifying one or two keystone habits that align with your goals.
2. Start Small and Be Consistent: The key to forming a new habit is to start small.
You can begin with reading a chapter per day until you want to read more.
Consistency is more important than intensity.
Over time, you can gradually increase the numbers.
3. Use Triggers to Your Advantage: A trigger is a cue that initiates your habit. It could be a specific time of day, an event, or a location.
For instance, if you want to develop a habit of meditating, you could do it right after your morning devotion. You could keep a jug of water close to your bed so that you drink it before stepping out of the room.
4. Reward Yourself: Positive reinforcement can help solidify new habits.
After completing your habit, reward yourself with something small but enjoyable.
This creates a positive association with the habit and increases the likelihood of it sticking.
Complete a book? Order a pizza or watch your favourite series.
5. Track Your Progress: Keeping a habit tracker can be incredibly motivating. It allows you to see your progress and stay accountable.
Whether it's a simple checklist or a dedicated app, find a tracking method that works for you.
6. Be Patient and Persistent: Forming a new habit takes time and effort.
There will be days when you slip up, and that's okay.
If you miss reading today, you can continue tomorrow.
The important thing is to get back on track and keep going.
Remember, persistence is key.
Building good habits might seem challenging at first, but the rewards are well worth the effort.
You'll find yourself more disciplined, focused, and capable of achieving your long-term goals.
Remember, doing little things consistently can lead to staggering results.
Cheers to forming great habits!
