Self-discipline is two words glued together by a hyphen.
Words like these are called hyphenated compounds.
People also use it for their names.
Especially wives that don't want to lose their last names.
They do this to their children too.
Wanting to keep the ancestral name.
Look at me already teaching you the English Language when I read mathematics in School.
I have been asked that same question.
How come you enjoy art, writing, and reading?
That's an email for another day if you promise to remind me.
Today, let's talk about self-discipline.
It's the Stoics who wrote about self-discipline.
I also find it interesting when it relates to parenting. Ryan wrote it in his Daily Dad newsletter, explaining it in a different light.
As a parent, you always complain about your children not doing this and that right.
They leave the light on, they forget to make their bed, they didn't do this, they didn't do that.
Then they end up seeing you as the villain of the house.
It's most common in African homes, where you see mothers waiting for the father to come home before punishment is administered.
Ryan said your children will grow up with this memory of a bickering father and someone they never had the chance to know or have a relationship with.
That's why most times, children stay away from their fathers, and more closer to their mum.
Discipline is alright, but it shouldn't be lorded over anyone. It's self-discipline. For you only. Allow others to learn from their mistakes.
Fathers are known as an emblem of discipline. Yes, but discipline can be done in an inspiring way not with the rod.
As a father, it took you years to learn the implications of leaving the lights on.
You have a better understanding of what happens after unprotected sex.
Your discipline didn't just happen overnight. It took decades and years.
This can be used as a yardstick for everyone, even if you are the boss, a mum, a teacher or even the traffic warden.
Your discipline is called self-discipline.
It's for you alone. You developed it yourself.
Your job is not to lord it over anyone.
You are called to deal with others with more patience because they might not be as disciplined as you when it comes to turning off the light but they are good and disciplined at something else.
You are bad at what they are good at.
It's Self-discipline.
It is for you.
It's for me.
It's personal.
Your discipline isn't my discipline.

P:S - I am deliberately writing on things that will help you live a seamless life. One way I did that a while ago was by helping people publish their writings as ebooks. I showed them how they could publish their work in 30 days without having a prior manuscript.
I will be sharing more details on this soon. It will be coming out as a course/book that will guide you for 30 days and of course with support from me.
More details soon. Get your pens and payment cards ready! (winks)
They also made money from these books.
